An eighth grader at Lotus, Victor Ramirez, is being promoted to the highest rank of Boy Scout, an Eagle Scout! This is a designation only 4% of Boy Scouts receive.

He had a real eagle at his ceremony

Before being promoted to Eagle Scout, Victor had to go through a seven step process including, be active in his troop for at least six months after being promoted to the rank of Life Scout, demonstrate that he lives by the principles of the Scout Oath and Scout Law in his daily life, earn a total of 21 merit badges, and complete a service project, among others.

Victor is 13 years old, while the average age for an Eagle Scout is 17. For Victor’s Service project, he decided to build a shed in the Lotus garden with the help of his troop. “Ms.Hall said there was no place to store the tools, so I thought we should build a shed,” he stated. Victor has also collected 56 merit badges. He has been in the program for two years.

Victor’s motivation for becoming an Eagle Scout was because “It really helps you in life. If I wanted to get a job, it would look good on an application. It’s an honor.” Something that he would like to say about the Boy Scouts of America is, “It is really good for youth; it teaches a lot of things like life principals. I would invite anybody to join if they have the chance.”

Next up for Victor after this is a week long leadership conference in New Mexico, called the National Advanced Youth Leadership Experience, where he will learn about life and survival skills.

Great job Victor! Keep up the good work!
