Over the last few years, juuling among teens and young adults has skyrocketed. Juul’s wide variety of various flavors is what’s especially alluring to teens. The flavorings vary from mango and strawberry to vanilla.

Youth are often led to believe that the liquid used in Juuls only contains water and flavoring and are unaware that it contains nicotine, a dangerous and extremely addictive chemical. It can cause an increase in blood pressure, heart rate, and the flow of blood to the heart.

Posters about the harm of vaping have been put up around our school as the use of vape pens an Juuls become more prevalent.

When asked whether he believes juuling is worse than cigarettes, Mr. Williams stated, “Smoking in general kills. Juuls contain nicotine which is especially dangerous to teens whose brains are still developing. There are not as many regulations when it comes to vaping and it’s causing a lot of death.”

He added, “People might vape due to seeing others they know do it. It almost takes awareness for all students to realize that it’s a stupid habit. As long as people are following their friends because they think they look cool, manufacturers will continue to prey on kids.”

Although the long-term health consequences of vaping are not known, recent studies report severe lung damage in people who vape.  Millions of doctors, parents, and even teachers are trying to find ways to encourage kids not to use e-cigarettes due to the extreme health problems they will have on children in the future.

The best way not to get caught up in the act of vaping is to realize that the action will bring long-term health consequences and is overall not worth risking your life for.

As of January 21, 2020, a total of 2,711 individuals were hospitalized due to the use of e-cigarettes, and an estimated 33 have died.
