A Legend Died, but His Legacy Lives On

“Heroes come and go but legends are forever.” – Kobe Bryant

The nation continues to grieve over the shocking news of Kobe Bryant’s death on Sunday, January 26. He was killed in a helicopter crash in California, along with his 13 year old daughter Gianna and seven others. According to reports, his daughter and the other passengers were on their way to a basketball game.

Leaving a legacy bigger than basketball, his life is unforgettable. Kobe Bryant signed with the league right after high school, changing the perspective of the entire NBA. He became one of the youngest players there and later transformed the league. Giving basketball meaning, he was was a role model to many.

Kobe Bryant was a great role model for many.

Beyond being an 18-time All-Star, who led his team to the NBA Championships multiple times and winning it five consecutive times, he inspired others on and off the court. Having played 20 seasons with the Lakers, and winning many championships and a long list of NBA records, nothing could stand in his way.

There was more to his life than his career. He was a father of four and a husband, who strived to be there for his family and who encouraged  his daughters to follow their dreams. He encouraged Gianna to give basketball a try.  He was the reason young athletes picked up the ball and even gave interest to the sport.

To break the silence, I interviewed teachers/staff and students about their thoughts; here are the questions and answers.
