This school year has brought many new changes, and a new principal is among them. Our new principal, Mr. Hecker, is known for frequently engaging with students and wanting to improve their school experience. However, his background and social life still remain a mystery to most students. Our principal has an interesting and eventful life when he is not working, and his schedule is always buzzing with different activities to do with a variety of hobbies to choose from. So I took it upon myself to interview him and get a glimpse into his personal life.

Growing up, school wasn’t always easy for him. Concentration was an issue, so he understands academic struggles and the pressure in doing your best at school. He says, “I understand when students are having trouble. I just get it.” One of his biggest supporters and role model was his mother, as she always motivated him and showed as much support as possible through thick and thin. Being a father of two also helps him understand how to deal with kids and how to get through to them.

Before coming to Lotus, Mr. Hecker lived just outside of Washington D.C. in Maryland. He decided to move to Colorado because of his appreciation for the outdoors and great weather. Mr. Hecker enjoys skiing, running, biking, and other great activities.

Traveling is also a favorite of his, but his time is limited as he isn’t able to as much with his busy schedule. He plans to visit and explore Europe in the future, but for now, Mr. Hecker plans to stay in Colorado in his office working, sometimes for even up to 16 hours a day! He is very observant and likes to help out others. You can always find him telling corny jokes!

We’re all happy to have him leading our school, and it’s obvious he loves his job and is very passionate to help others while keeping an open mind towards others.
