Game of the Year Nominees

Here are the nominated games for this year's "Game of the Year" award!

As the snow rolls in, the “The Game Awards” event comes with it. Available to watch live on Thursday, December 8, at 5:30 PM.

“The Game Awards” is an event/ceremony that takes place each year usually during the month of December. It awards video games in many different categories and recognizes the achievements made by them. Think of it like the Grammys or the Oscars but for video games. 

Each year, they choose one game from a select few to be awarded the “Game of the Year” award. Here are the video games nominated for the 2022 year.


A Plague Tale: Requiem

According to Metacritic, (an entertainment-review website) A Plague Tale: Requiem is an Action-Adventure game where you go on a journey in a “world twisted by supernatural forces.” The two protagonists, Amicoa and Hugo escape their homeland in an attempt to start a new life while trying to control Hugo’s curse. It has a “Metascore” (critic score) of 85 and a “User Score” (user-review score) of 8.4. It is available on PC, PlayStation 5, Switch, and Xbox Series X. Elden Ring

Once again, according to Metacritic, Elden Ring is a ”fantasy action-RPG adventure set within a world created by Hidetaka Miyazaki creator of the influential DARK SOULS video game series. As it was created by the same creator of Dark Souls, it carries a lot of the same elements that were found in that game series. It has a “Metascore” of 96 and a “User Score” of 7.7, and it is a “Metacritic MUST-PLAY.” It is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. God of War Ragnarök

God of War Ragnarök is an open-world action-adventure game. Based on Metacritic, the protagonist, Kratos, is “still bearing the knowledge of his past mistakes, wants to spare Atreus the bloody lessons he learned from his conflict with gods. He wants to keep his son safe, above all, and their confrontation with Baldur has vindicated the belief that only tragedy will come from further entanglements with the Aesir.” It has a “Metascore” of 94 and a “User Score” of 8.1, and it is also a “Metacritic MUST-PLAY.” It is available on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. Horizon Forbidden West

Horizon Forbidden West is an Action RPG, Action-Adventure, and Open-World game! From Metacritic, the protagonist, Aloy “braves the Forbidden West – a majestic but dangerous frontier that conceals mysterious new threats. Explore distant lands, fight bigger and more awe-inspiring machines, and encounter astonishing new tribes as you return to the far-future, post-apocalyptic world of Horizon.” It has a “Metascore” of 88 and a “User Score” of 8.0.  It is available on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. Stray 

Stray is an action-adventure game where you play as a cat who is alone and separated from your family. “Stray is a third-person cat adventure game set amidst the detailed neon-lit alleys of a decaying cybercity and the murky environments of its seedy underbelly. See the world through the eyes of a stray and interact with the environment in playful ways,” (Metacritic). It has a “Metascore” of 83 and a “User Score” of 8.5. Xenoblade Chronicles 3

The action RPG game, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is the third entry in the series. As stated by Metacritic, “this title will take players to the world of Aionios, home to two hostile nations.” The game continues the future of the first two games and has a lot of stories and characters for your enjoyment. It has a “Metascore” of 89 and a “User Score” of 8.5. It is available on the Nintendo Switch. Read more about this game and its reviews here.
