A Day in the Life of Mr. Chris
The teacher who does it all!
January 25, 2023
Mr. Chris Nguyen is a College and Career Advisor at Lotus School for Excellence and, alongside Mrs. Brauhn, a senior advisor. He can be found in room 217 and is known as the Study Hall teacher. Mr. Chris has been a part of the Lotus family for over 7 years and has helped many students grow, guiding them on the path to graduation.
Going Through the Day
Mr. Chris starts off his morning by talking with Mr. Davis, who is outside conducting traffic. After chit-chatting with him for some time he heads inside to his room. His morning consists of simple tasks such as changing the date on his board, checking emails from students and teachers, and refilling his water bottle, “if needed.”
Mr. Chris has study hall periods during 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 6th, 7th, and 8th period. During 4th period, he supervises middle school students during their lunch period and spends his time in his classroom during his 5th period lunch. He says he usually spends this period eating lunch or watching his favorite shows on his computer.
Leading Students to Success
Throughout his study hall periods, Mr. Chris ensures that seniors in particular are on top of their college work. This consists of things such as FAFSA and college applications. He ensures seniors have their priorities straight, and helps the senior committee plan fundraisers and events to an extent. Mr. Chris has helped plan Homecoming, was a part of the Senior VS Staff Soccer game held in September, and helped with Boo grams. He has been behind the scenes in many senior-related events, not only does Mr. Chris does a lot for seniors but he also does a lot for his players on the court.
Leading on the Court
Despite being a study hall teacher, Mr. Chris is also known as “Coach Chris”. He has a history of coaching secondary sports here at Lotus. This year he is the head coach of the varsity girls basketball team. In the past, he has coached the middle school flag football team, as well as the middle school girls soccer team in 2018. Mr. Chris excels in many sports himself and wants to share the spirit of sports with others. When asked if he enjoys coaching he said, “I do like coaching because I have the ability to help somebody better their game”. Mr. Chris hopes to continue coaching in the future, and is grateful for the opportunity of coaching the girls varsity basketball team this year. He spends most of his afternoons coaching the girls in the secondary gym, almost everyday.
Mr. Chris plays a very important role here at Lotus, and we hope to continue seeing him in upcoming years. He has impacted Lotus in numerous ways, and is a memorable teacher.
